EARLY PREPARATIONS
Firstly I ask all wedding clients to inform guests and family that you've hired someone to capture your day and refrain from standing in the aisle! This is crucial to ensure I get the best ceremony photos, and if someone is in the way of a great shot I will have to politely ask them to move, however, they could get in the way of an important moment before I reach them such as walking down the aisle or the first kiss (its happened in the past).
A very important task I have for you and your future spouse is to write a list of all wedding party and family photos that you for sure want. Examples include "Bride with parents. Groom with grandfather. etc". As you do so, please include names so I know who to call upon, "Bride and groom with Taylor (the best man), Groom with Lily (Flowergirl)." Let your friends and family know that they've been put upon this list and to stick around during this scheduled time.
I also require a rough guideline for your wedding day so I can ensure I'm in the right places at the right time. For example, "2 pm - Getting ready photos. 3 pm - First look, etc." This does not have to be exact but is important. referring to the above text, I recommend scheduling at least 15-30 minutes for Bride and groom portraits or a 'first look' and 15-30 minutes for the wedding party/family photos.
Throughout the remainder of the day I like to photograph documentary style, I'm a fly on the wall you will hardly notice ;)
DAY OF!!!
I will speak with your ceremony host, and ask them to step aside as they say "You may kiss", this ensures there is no floating head in between your first kiss! I also recommend kissing TWICE. Either twice at the alter OR once at the alter and again walking away down the aisle at the very end. This can make a beautiful photo of both spouses with all guests clapping and cheering behind you. *swoon*
Tips: try holding your bouquet closer to your hip instead of your chest, this allows not only me, but all of your guests to see those pretty details on your dress.
Practice walking down the aisle with your wedding party! We all want to enjoy such a beautiful moment with that glowing wedding party of yours.
Ask your family and closest friends to match the colour scheme of your wedding, those group photos will look amazing with everyone coordinated. When in doubt, neutrals!
